Erling Haaland Opens Up About His Goal Drought: “Where Are My Goals?”

Erling Haaland admits frustration after scoring just one goal in his last eight games for Manchester City. Find out what he said, his season stats so far, and what’s coming next.

Erling Haaland Goal Slump 2026: Manchester City Star Speaks Out

Erling Haaland usually makes scoring look effortless. This season kicked off the same way, with goals flying in for Manchester City and Norway. Yet, in all of today’s match predictions, his quiet spell is the unexpected subplot. Right now, things feel different. The big Norwegian has hit a rough patch and scored only once in his last eight matches. That single goal came from the penalty spot.

After a recent tough game, he spoke openly. “Where are the goals? I don’t have an answer as to why I stopped scoring and converting my chances. I give my all and do my job on the pitch, but I don’t always score.” He finished by saying he hopes to turn things around in the next match.
That’s straight talk. No dodging questions or pointing fingers. Just a striker who’s clearly annoyed that the ball isn’t ending up in the net like it usually does.

The Numbers Still Look Strong Overall

Step back and look at the full season so far. Haaland has put up solid figures. He’s sitting on roughly 26 goals in about 28 to 30 appearances across club and country. In the Premier League alone, he has 20 goals from 22 matches. Throw in six more in the Champions League from a smaller number of games. For almost any striker, that would be an excellent campaign.

For Haaland, though, after the ridiculous hauls he posted in earlier seasons, this quiet spell stands out. One goal (a penalty) in eight games feels strange when you’re used to seeing him score in almost every match.

When Did the Drought Really Start?

The run without open-play goals has dragged on since around mid-December. Matches against Manchester United ended in a 2-0 loss at Old Trafford. Then came the shocking 3-1 defeat to Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League. In that game, Haaland missed a clear chance from six yards out. Fans couldn’t quite believe what they saw. That’s not what the Haaland people know.

Pep Guardiola has commented on the situation. He points to the packed schedule and heavy minutes. Haaland has played more than anyone else at the club because of injuries to players like Phil Foden. The manager says it’s hard to rest his main goal threat, even if tiredness could be creeping in.

It’s not only about fatigue. In some games, the service to him hasn’t been clean. City as a team has dropped points and looked a bit flat at times. The derby defeat to United stung badly. Then Bodø/Glimt, a Norwegian side, pulled off a famous upset in Europe. Rodri’s red card didn’t help, but the attack, Haaland included, couldn’t find a way back.

Why This Feels Temporary

Haaland has come through quiet periods before and come out stronger. Think back to how explosive he was right after signing for City. Or those stretches where he scored in game after game. This dry spell looks like a bump in the road rather than a permanent issue.

He doesn’t shy away from the problem either. He takes full responsibility and admits he’s giving everything, but the results aren’t following. That kind of honesty is refreshing from a player at his level.

Key Matches to Watch Next

Here’s what stands out in the weeks ahead:

  • Premier League game against Wolves coming up soon. A home match where Haaland tends to thrive. Perfect chance to break the run.
  • Champions League regroup after the Bodø result. He’s already scored six times in Europe this season, so the ability is still there.
  • The race for the Golden Boot. Even during this dip, he’s right near the top of the Premier League charts. A couple more quiet games, and others could catch up.
  • Any Norway call-ups during international breaks. Sometimes a change of scenery helps strikers find their rhythm again.

Manchester City supporters understand one simple truth. When Haaland gets going again, the goals will pour in. That’s the moment fans who check live scores wait for, the moment they see his name light up the feed once more. This current stretch, one goal in eight games, is unusual. But his season tally remains impressive. Around 39 goals in 36 matches for club and country show he’s still operating at an elite level despite the recent frustration.

The next game might spark the turnaround. Or it could take a few more tries. Either way, everyone is paying close attention. Haaland most of all.
